Rav Aryeh Shulman, Rosh Kollel

Rabbi Aryeh Shulman, Rosh Kollel

Born in Minsk, Belarus and raised in Chicago, Rabbi Shulman attended U of I for undergraduate school and U of W for Medical School before going to Yeshivah in Eretz Yisroel where he become a close student of Rabbi Beryl Gershenfeld Shlita, one of the leaders in the fields of Kiruv and Baal Teshuva education. Additionally Rabbi Shulman became a talmid of HaGaon HaRav Zevulun Schwartzman shlita, who was Rabbi Shulman’s mentor in the prestigious Shav Shmaisah Kollel. During Rabbi Shulman’s time in the Kollel, he had the privilege to become a student of the great luminary HaRav Moshe Shapira z”l. Under Rabbi Schwartzman's guidance, Rabbi Shulman published a commentary on the Derech HaShem, drawing on the Ramchal’s other works to unlock the depths of this all-important work. Additionally, Rabbi Shulman received rabbinic ordination from Rabbi Zalman Nechemia Goldberg and later from Rav Elimelech Kornfeld.

Rabbi Chaim Agishtein, Night Sader Rosh Chabura

Rabbi Chaim Agishtein

Originally from N.J., Rabbi Avrohom Chaim Agishtein came to Chicago to share the experience and knowledge of his many role models. Foremost among them are his parents: Dr. Michael and Lila Agishtein, who chose to live as religious Jews in Moscow, while under Communism despite the risks it entailed. Raising him with the message that one must live in accordance with one’s values, regardless of the circumstances. Attending the Talmudical Yeshiva of Philadelphia for high school and Beis Medrash, his rebbeim, under the leadership of Harav Shmuel Kamenitsky shlita, taught him not only the knowledge and skills necessary for Torah scholarship, but also the responsibility to use that knowledge for others. At the time that he joined Kollel Ateres Ami, Rabbi Agishtein was living in Yerushalayim and just received his Smicha in Hilchos Shabbos from the Israeli Rabbinate and Harav Z.N. Goldberg. He now lives in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago with his wife Baila and their sons Menachem and Yitzchok.

Rabbi Meir Goykhman

Rabbi Meir Goykhman

A Chicago-born native, Rabbi Goykhman grew up right here in West Rogers park, himself a child born to Russian immigrants. After graduating Skokie Yeshiva, he travelled to Eretz Yisroel where he spent the next half decade learning in Yeshiva Bais Yisroel in Yerushalayim under HaRav Doniel Lehrfield Shlita. Rabbi Goykhman especially enjoys reaching out and trying to help others grow in their learning. He founded and runs our exciting and engaging boys learning program every Sunday night where the children of community members have the opportunity to learn b’chavrusa with the Yungeleit as they delve into fascinating halachic topics. He has spent the past three summers as a Rebbe teaching in various camps where he has taught boys as old as high school and as young as third grade. His wife, Yehudis, also the child of Russian immigrants enjoys being involved in Kiruv as well, and currently works as an RN in the Buckingham Pavilion Nursing Home. Rabbi Goykhman and his wife reside together with their son, Bentzy, in West Rogers Park.

Rabbi Aryeh Zaslavsky

Rabbi Aryeh Zaslavsky

Born in Volgograd, Russia, Rabbi Zaslavsky made Aliyah at 13 years old and studied at Berin LeZion in Beiter Illit. Alongside his studies, he trained and competed in krav maga.  After graduating high school, he went to study Torah in Moscow  in the Yeshiva Torat Chaim, established by Rabbi Yitzhak Zilber.  After completing almost two years of his studies there, he moved back to Israel and joined the yeshiva Nahalat Leviim in Haifa.  After getting married, he continued his studies in various kollels, including kollel Torat Zev led by Rabbi Boruch Soloveitchik, and Yeshivat Haran led by Rabbi Igal Polishchuk.  The last few years he was teaching at the yeshiva Touray Zaav and the Internet program Beerot Isaac. Now Ateres Ami is fortunate to have him helping out as an outreach liaison from J-life.

Rabbi Rephoel Yeshaya Schwadron

Rabbi Rephoel Yeshaya Schwadron

Rabbi Rephoel Yeshaya Schwadron, raised in Lakewood, New Jersey is a Talmid of the Mesivta Keren Hatorah. He comes to the Kollel after spending the past eight years learning in Yerushalyim. First in the famed Brisker Kollel and then in Kollel Ohr Layisharim as a Chavrusa of the Rosh Kollel Rabbi Chaim Irons.

Upon making the decision to move back to the United States, Rabbi Schwadron was drawn to the Kollel’s approach of learning whole Masechtas with an emphasis on clarity, deep analysis and retention, all combined with a strong focus on spiritual growth.

Additionally, as a child, Rabbi Schwadron’s parents ran Acheinu, an outreach organization for Russian Jews from their home, for over 10 years. Growing up in such a home kindled a passion for teaching and sharing with others the beauty of Torah. The Kollel’s many community learning initiatives offer a prime outlet for Rabbi Schwadron to grow, develop and give in this area.

Mrs Schwadron was also happy to move to Chicago, her home town.

Rabbi Simcha Bunin

Rabbi Simcha Bunin

Rabbi Bunin was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. A member of the founding class of the Mesivta of Boston High School, he then continued his studies at the Beis Medrash of the Yeshiva of Staten Island, under the auspices of Rabbi Reuven Feinstein and Rabbi Chaim Mintz. Subsequently, he honed his learning abilities under the tutelage of Brisk, in the Yeshiva of Rabbi Tzvi Kaplan in Yerushalayim. During his training, Simcha met his wife Rochel Yoffe, daughter of a proud Russian family who emigrated from Minsk to the United States in 1974. Rabbi Bunin is excited to be a part of our Kollel and have the opportunity to help others develop their learning abilities. He serves as our in-house Baal Korei and Baal Tefilla, and adds a taste of Brisker Lomdus to our Beis Medrash.

Rabbi Shimshon Malahimov

Rabbi Shimshon Malahimov

Rabbi Malahimov’s childhood started in Russia and through divine hashgacha in the year of 1991 he and his family immigrated to United States and settled in Cleveland, Ohio. Eventually, he joined Yeshivas Tifferes Avigdor Wickliffe, Ohio located in right near the famous Telshe Yeshiva, and was a part of Yeshivas Tifferes Avigdor for almost eight years, under the auspices of his HaRosh Yeshiva and Rebbe Muvhak, HaRav Yisroel Brog shlita. Through the Rosh Yeshiva’s guidance and advice he has developed into a ben Torah. Rabbi Malahimov currently resides in the West Roger’s park neighborhood of Chicago with his wife and children. His wife Nava, specializes in early childhood education.
